Wedding Ceremony Sample 6
PROCESSION : Cannon in D
(bride escorted to altar)
INVOCATION
We are Children of the Light. May the Light of God shine through us each and every day.
MARRIAGE INTRODUCTION
We are gathered here today in the sight of God, and the presence of friends and loved ones, to celebrate one of life's greatest moments. We are here to give recognition to the worth and beauty of love, and to add our best wishes and blessings to the words that will unite BILL and JANE in holy matrimony.
This holy estate which Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and the first miracle he wrought in Cana of Galilee and is commended in Holy Scripture to be honourable among all persons and therefore is not by any to be entered into lightly, unadvisedly, or wantonly; but reverently, discreetly, soberly, and in the eyes of God duly considering the cause for which matrimony was ordained.
Matrimony was ordained for the hallowing of the union between man and woman; and for the mutual society, help, and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, in both prosperity and adversity. Into this Holy Estate JANE and BILL come now to be joined.
PRAYER
Let us Pray
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is discord, union;
Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, Grant that we may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
READING/LESSON -
Corinthians: chapter 13 - verse 1 -13 -
If I speak in tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful, it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends, as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will
pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; When I became a man, I gave
up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
ADDRESS
BILL and JANE the relationship that you have nurtured together stands for love that will blossom and grow with each passing day. Before you knew love, you were friends, and it was from this seed of friendship that your love grew. Marriage is the clasping of hands, the blending of hearts, the union of two lives as one. Marriage is caring as much about the welfare and happiness of your marriage partner as your own, it is not total absorption into each other; it is looking outward in the same direction together.
Marriage makes burdens lighter because you divide them. It makes joys more intense because you share them. It makes you stronger, so you can be involved with life in ways you dare not risk alone. To make your relationship work will take love. This is the core of your marriage and why you are here today. It will take trust, to know in your hearts that you truly want the best for each other. It will take dedication, to stay open and honest with one another - and to learn and grow together. It will take faith, to go forward together without knowing exactly what the future brings. And it will take commitment, to hold true to the journey you both promised today to share together. An intimate and secure relationship is not based solely on promises, but also on trust, respect, faithfulness and the ability to forgive. A lasting marriage is based on all of these, bound together by love.
PROMISES
JANE and BILL no other human ties are more tender and sacred that those you now assume.
BILL will you have JANE to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold, to live together in holy estate of matrimony?
Will you love her, cherish her, honour, and keep her, in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, and, forsaking all others, keep you only unto her?
BILL - I will
JANE will you have BILL to be your wedded husband, to have and to hold, to live together in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love him, cherish him, honour him, and keep him, in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto him?
JANE - I will
Who presents JANE to be married to BILL?
Escort - I/We DO
Marriage is more than a man and a woman and making them husband and wife. For they who give a son and they who
give a daughter become one family and so the miracle of love spreads its ties throughout the earth.

A Marriage’s Work
A marriage... makes of two fractional lives a whole;
it gives to two separate lives a single work,
and doubles the strength of each to perform it;
it gives to two questioning natures a reason for living,
and something to live for;
it will give a new gladness to the sunshine,
a new fragrance to the flowers,
a new beauty to the earth,
and a new mystery to life.

RING CEREMONY
( Best Man hands wedding rings to the minister)
The marriage ring seals the vows of marriage and represents a promise for eternal and everlasting love. It is a physical manifestation of the promises joining both the BILL and JANE together. The wedding ring is placed on the fourth finger of the
left hand because it was traditionally believed that this finger was a direct connection to the heart - the perfect place for a symbol representing eternal love and commitment.
Sanctify O Lord these rings, that they may be to these Thy children, a token of their solemn vows and pledge of pure and endless love. Amen.
GROOM (placing the ring on Bride’s finger, repeats after the Minister)
I, BILL, take you JANE to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse,
for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish from this day forward.
BRIDE (placing the ring on the Groom’s finger, repeats after Minister)
I, JANE, take you BILL to be my wedding husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for
worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, from this day forward.
Forasmuch as JANE and BILL have consented together in Holy Wedlock and have witnessed the same before God and
this company, and thereto have given and pledged their troth to each other, and have declared the same by the presenting and receiving of rings and by joining hands.
I hereby pronounce you to be husband and wife…..you may kiss the bride.

BENEDICTION:
The Lord bless you and keep you both. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious upon you. The Lord lift His countenance upon you and give you peace, happiness, and joy, at this moment, throughout your married life, and forevermore. Amen.
Let us offer a prayer of thanksgiving that JANE and BILL have found such joy and happiness.
PRAYER FOR THE NEWLYWEDS
Bless their marriage, O God, as they begin their journey down the road of life together. We don't know what lies ahead for the road turns and bends. But help them to make the best of whatever comes their way.
Help them to continue to enjoy each other as they did when they first met. Help them to realize that nothing nor no one is perfect and to look for the good in all things and all people including themselves.
Help them to respect each other's likes and dislikes, opinions and beliefs, hopes and dreams and fears even though they may not always understand them.
Help them to learn from each other and to help each other to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Help them to realize that no matter what happens to them they will hold on to each other and know that things have a way of working out for the good.
Help them to create for their children a peaceful, stable home of love as a foundation on which they can build their lives.
But most of all, dear God, help them to keep lit the torch of love' that they now share so that by their loving example they may pass on the light of love to their children and to their children's children forever. Amen

May you never take each other for granted but always experience the wonders of your union. May your love consist not only in gazing into each other’s eyes, but also in looking outward in the same direction.
