From “ The Prophet” by Khalil Gibran
Love one another but make not a bond of love.
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each others cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts but not into each others keeping,
For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.
And stand together but not too near together,
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each others shadow.
But let there be space in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love.

READING/LESSON - Corinthians: chapter 13 - verse 1 -13 -
If I speak in tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful, it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends, as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

A Marriage’s Work
A marriage... makes of two fractional lives a whole;
it gives to two separate lives a single work,
and doubles the strength of each to perform it;
it gives to two questioning natures a reason for living,
and something to live for;
it will give a new gladness to the sunshine,
a new fragrance to the flowers,
a new beauty to the earth,
and a new mystery to life.

How do I love thee?
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breath and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the end of Being and ideal Grace.
I love the to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, - I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! - and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

The Art Of A Good Marriage - Wilferd Arlan Peterson
Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created. In the art of marriage, the little things are big things…
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is never taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
it should continue through all the years.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner,
it is being the right partner.

Strong as rock yet soft as sand, always growing and always patient
May your love be like fire, Passionate, intense and energetic

May your love be like all four elements, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually intertwined
To create the perfect balance,

All the Days of Your Lives by Avery Jakobs
May life bring you beautiful moments full of togetherness and love
That leave you with memories to warm your souls for many years to come.
May you discover new ways to appreciate
the great gifts you have as a couple.
May you have all the time you want
to enjoy the magic and wonder of your love.
May you look ahead with the faith and confidence
That the coming years will be your best ever.
Most of all, may you share all this for as long as you live and love together.

Why Marriage? Mari Nichols-Haining
Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,
With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...
Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,
Who won't hold them against me,
Who loves me when I'm unlikable,
Who sees the small child in me, and
Who looks for the divine potential of me...
Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night
With someone who thanks God for me,
With someone I feel blessed to hold...
Because marriage means opportunity
To grow in love in friendship...
Because marriage is a discipline
To be added to a list of achievements...
Because marriages do not fail, people fail
When they enter into marriage
Expecting another to make them whole...
Because, knowing this,
I promise myself to take full responsibility
For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness
I create me, I take half of the responsibility for my marriage
Together we create our marriage...
Because of this understanding
The possibilities are limitless.

PRAYER FOR THE NEWLYWEDS
Bless their marriage, O God, as they begin their journey down the road of life together. We don't know what lies ahead for the road turns and bends. But help them to make the best of whatever comes their way.
Help them to continue to enjoy each other as they did when they first met. Help them to realize that nothing nor no one is perfect and to look for the good in all things and all people including themselves.
Help them to respect each other's likes and dislikes, opinions and beliefs, hopes and dreams and fears even though they may not always understand them.
Help them to learn from each other and to help each other to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Help them to realize that no matter what happens to them they will hold on to each other and know that things have a way of working out for the good.
Help them to create for their children a peaceful, stable home of love as a foundation on which they can build their lives.
But most of all, dear God, help them to keep lit the torch of love' that they now share so that by their loving example they may pass on the light of love to their children and to their children's children forever. Amen

To love (Author Unknown)
To love is to enter a whole New World, a world of togetherness, a world of sharing.... All that is dearest and deepest within your hearts. To love is to remember and keep alive forever all those unique qualities that drew you to one another in the beginning.... Those first halting phrases... That wonderful feeling of oneness when your eyes first met. To love is to constantly search for new ways to bring each other happiness, to make the most of every moment you share together, and marvel at how your feelings for one another keep rising to new dimensions. To love is to create an oasis of tranquility for one another and a quiet place, apart from others, where you need not pretend...where you can be yourselves.... And know within your hearts, you will be accepted by one another. To love is to greet each day with anticipation...Always eager for another opportunity to share new adventures...And gather up new memories together! To love is to follow the rainbow through the rain, to be able to laugh at yourselves and be willing to say...."I was wrong, I'm sorry"...To forgive, and more importantly, to forget, and to always believe and trust in one another. To love is to watch with wonder all the miracles of creation, to find beauty in all the simple things of life, and to find, within yourselves, a deeper appreciation and a new awareness of how wonderful it is to be alive...To be happy...To be together. To love is coming together from the pathways of your past and then moving forward... Hand in hand, along the uncharted roads of your future, ready to risk, to dream, and to dare.... Always believing that all things are possible with faith and love

The Key To Love
The key to love is understanding…….
The ability to comprehend not only the spoken word,
but those unspoken gestures,
the little things that say so much by themselves
They key to love is forgiveness….
To accept each others faults and pardon mistakes,
without forgetting, but with remembering
what you learn from them
The key to love is sharing…….
Facing your good fortune as well as the bad, together;
both conquering problems, forever searching for ways
to intensify your happiness
The key to love is giving…..
without thought of return,
but with the hope of just a simple smile,
and by giving in but never giving up
The key to love is respect……
realizing that you are two separate people, with different ideas’
that you don’t belong to each other,
that you belong WITH each other, and share a mutual bond
The key to love is inside us all……
it takes time and patience to unlock all the ingredients
that will take you to its threshold’
it is the continual learning process that demands a lot of work….
But the rewards are more than worth the effort….
And that is the key to love
The key to love is understanding…….
The ability to comprehend not only the spoken word,

Poem by Susan Schutz
Together in marriage you will bring out the best in each other.
You will learn from each other and grow from your differences.
You will be two individuals living your own lives with each other as one.
Together in marriage you will be stronger, more sensitive,
More aware, more knowing and more at peace
Than you are individually.
You will be better people.
Together in marriage your love will give understanding
To all that you do because you will share your ideas,
Goals, and frustrations.
And you will always have someone to support whatever you say and do.
Together in marriage
You will be able to achieve all that you want in life.
Together in marriage you will bring out the best in each other.
You will learn from each other and grow from your differences.
You will be two individuals living your own lives with each other as one.
Together in marriage you will be stronger, more sensitive,

Love is Giving -- Author: Unknown
Love is giving, not taking,
mending, not breaking,
trusting, believing, never deceiving,
patiently bearing
and faithfully sharing
each joy, every sorrow,
today and tomorrow.
Love is kind, understanding,
but never demanding.
Love is constant, prevailing,
its strength never failing.
A promise once spoken
For all time unbroken,
Love’s time is forever.
Love is giving, not taking,
mending, not breaking,
trusting, believing, never deceiving,
patiently bearing

Love’s time is forever.
I Bow Deeply - Thich Nhat Hanh
Standing quietly by the fence,
you smile your wondrous smile,
I am speechless,
and my senses are filled
By the sounds of your beautiful song,
Beginningless and endless.
I bow deeply to you.
Standing quietly by the fence,
you smile your wondrous smile,
I am speechless,
and my senses are filled
By the sounds of your beautiful song,
Beginningless and endless.
I bow deeply to you.
Passage From Bread for the Journey
"May your love be firm,
and may your dream of life together
be a river between two shores --
by day bathed in sunlight, and by night
illuminated from within. May the heron
carry news of you to the heavens, and the salmon bring
the sea's blue grace. May your twin thoughts spiral upward
like leafy vines, like fiddle strings in the wind,
and be as noble as the Douglas fir.
May you never find yourselves back to back
without love pulling you around
into each other's arms."

“Blessing of the Hands", revised by Rev. Daniel L. Harris
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and as in today, tears of joy. These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children, the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

"Sooner or Later"
by Anon, 1st century China
"Sooner or later we begin to understand
that love is more than verses on valentines day,
We begin to know that love is here and now, real and true,
the most important thing in our lives.
For love is the creator of our favourite memories
and the foundation of our fondest dreams.
Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune that can never be spent,
a seed that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places.
And this radiance that never fades, this mysterious and magical joy,
is the greatest treasure of all - one known only by those who love."
